The UT administration today issued a notification to suspend the increase in the water tariff until March 2022.
“Pursuant to the resolution adopted by the General House of the municipal company on October 29, 2020 and to relieve the general public due to serious Covid circumstances, the administrator of the UT postponed the implementation of the notification issued by UT administration on September 11, 2020, regarding the water tariff for a period up to March 31, 2022 ”, reads a notice published by Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary, Local Government.
In September of last year, the Administration of UT had notified an increase of 50 to 200% depending on the category of user and the level of water consumption.
After facing criticism from the opposition, the General House MC passed a resolution in October last year, asking the administration to withdraw the notification and remove existing charges until the pandemic is over. .
Meanwhile, Charanjiv Singh, chairman, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal, said the MC’s decision was another step in the right direction that would bring some relief to traders and the city as a whole.
He thanked Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma, a prominent member of the Chandigarh Beopar Mandal who had made every effort to raise the issue with the administration.
